Instructional/Curriculum Design And Alignment:
The models we use in an instructional design solution are responsive to the client’s unique learning context. Generally, we subscribe to a situative view of learning (i.e. Lave & Wenger, 1992). From this viewpoint, we recognize that successful solutions understand the characteristics of the learner in the unique context in which the learning solution will be delivered. Solutions are customized to the demands of your situation. Beyond meeting the needs of your specific situation, we also have core beliefs about what makes learning effective. For instance, it is important to engage learners in the process through techniques and strategies that are responsive to the learning styles and multiple intelligences they bring to the table. Effective learning designs allow for a blending of experience and application supported by theory and information. Whatever your learning situation, our instructional design solutions are sure to respond to the nuances of your context while producing effective, meaningful learning.
Project Management:
Learning projects, in some ways, are substantially different than architecture, engineering or technology projects. As such, it requires an understanding of the learning process in addition to the ability to develop and use project task plans to meet project objectives. We use modified Rational Unified Process as our model for project management. This means we’ll help your organization think and plan for each of the stages of a project while understanding that often it’s best to recognize that specific outputs may change as the collective understanding and appreciation for primary targets emerge. Our project team members expect timelines and tasks to be modified in order to best meet the emerging opportunities as the project progresses. Additionally, our team is very comfortable using logic models for project mapping and evaluation. A logic model sets out the big picture of a project and assists to align all activities and efforts with high priority and high value impacts. Finally, an important note to share: when we manage a project for your team we consider ourselves members of your team. We strive to become part of your organization, to share your mission and carry your message. We hate to be called consultants. We go to great lengths to be seen as added capacity to your team.
Training and Professional Development:
We utilize a model for professional development adapted from Joyce and Showers. The model recognizes that adults learn best when presented with a sound understanding of the theory behind the concept. In addition to theory, adults need to see strong models of others using or demonstrating the concept. To deepen the understanding and ensure use of the new knowledge/skills, adults must also be given opportunities to practice. The final component, coaching, provides feedback to adult learners and redirects them back to additional experiences with the most useful learning opportunities. In the design of professional development – modeling, practice and coaching are bedrock principles and not just afterthoughts.
Strategic Planning Facilitation:
Strategic planning allows all employees to understand the big picture, where the organization is headed and how an individual’s performance, when done well, helps to accomplish the goals of the organization. Often times, however, the organization spends more time in developing "the plan" than actualizing "the plan". When you enter an organization’s offices, you might see a beautifully framed copy of the strategic plan proudly displaying the mission, vision and goals. When you ask an employee what the plan is – they often have no idea. That is where Vivayic differs from other strategic planning facilitators.
We certainly place great importance on the process and employ a variety of methodologies in creating the strategic plan. We are able to meet the client where they are; whether that means defining their mission, vision and values or translating those guiding mantras into goals, objectives and targets. However, we place equal importance on what happens next: implementation and evaluation. Vivayic takes the process two steps further creating the "how to" for actualizing the plan and the means of providing feedback and evaluation to adjust the plan to meet the organization’s ultimate objectives. Our goal is not only to help a client plan for their desired future but also to see them achieve that future.
