Student-Parent Program
Together, the Vivayic team discussed how best to engage in bettering their community and had the good fortune to connect with the Student-Parent Program at Lincoln High. With admiration for the young parents who so diligently work to make life better for themselves and their young children; Vivayic suggested StrengthsQuest™ training as an opportunity to enhance each student’s education and increase their knowledge of their own strengths for their future and their families.
December 2007, Vivayic connects with the Student-Parent Program at Lincoln High School. Their mission is to assist pregnant and/or parenting youth (both male and female) attain independence and self-sufficiency through enhanced educational, health, social service, vocational and parenting opportunities.
Vivayic staff spent an afternoon implementing StrengthsQuest™ donated by the Gallup Organization to determine each student’s strengths. From there, Vivayic Principal Seth Derner met with everyone individually to explore the logistics of the assessment of their strengths. During this session, Derner discussed with each person their unique set of strengths and how they might be used to guide them in making further education and career decisions. This process culminated with a holiday meal at Magnolia, a favorite local eatery of staff. Vivayic staff, Carrie Derner said, "What I love about the student parent program is seeing these students proud to make themselves into the best parents they can be."
Jessie Carlson, Associate Principal, Lincoln High School said, "It’s rare to have a night of attention for the moms; this evening was all about that. Vivayic took students to dinner to talk and review their strengths. Vivayic engaged the youth in dialogue and provided feedback about their positive qualities and how to best utilize them to impact their life and family in a positive way."
Student parent and December 2007 graduate of Lincoln High, Shalia Wimes enjoyed the evening out and appreciated the chance to learn more about her strengths. "My StrengthsQuest™ training with Vivayic staff made me feel better about myself. It gave me a real passion to know that some of my strengths will be helpful in my future career. I plan to become an emergency management technician and knowing that I have empathy, woo and communication as a few of my strengths will serve me well."
